[48436] "The Ellsworth American [Ellsworth, Maine], 24 February 2021": "Jeanette Rose (Clough) Grindle, affectionately known as 'Jan,' 79, passed away peacefully in her sleep at home with her family on Feb. 19, from cancer. She was born in Bar Harbor on June 5, 1941, to Robert Clough and Alberta (Murphy) Clough. Jeanette grew up in Town Hill, raised by loving parents, alongside her younger sister Sharon, who was also her best friend. All her life they shared that true 'sister-bond,' visible by all who know them. Growing up she was surrounded by a very large family. There were 14 aunts and uncles, and numerous cousins, most of whom were also residing close by on MDI. Jeanette was a 1959 graduate of Bar Harbor High School. After high school, she married and moved to the small town of Clifton, where she raised two daughters with her first husband of 17 years and was employed at the Airline Snack Bar. From there she would return to Bar Harbor, where she met and married her future husband. It was at that time she began to escape Maine winter, to then reside in South Florida for six to seven months out of the year. She became employed by Testas Restaurant for a number of years, both in Bar Harbor and also in Palm Beach, Fla. It was a job that allowed for travel back and forth with the seasons, and a job where she acquired the nickname 'Jan.' Jeanette was predeceased by her husband of 24 years, Morgan Grindle, in 2005. Together they had moved to and became residents of Lake Okeechobee, Fla., for their winter., while residing at their place in Hancock County for the summers. She loved sunshine and warmth! Jeanette is survived by her two daughters, Vicki Lunt of Bucksport and Leissa Long of Hancock; one special ex-son-in-law, Kevin Lunt of Ellsworth; three grandchildren, Briana Lunt and partner DJ, Logan Lunt of Bucksport and Jeff Long and partner Trisha of Hancock; one great-grandson, Mark Long, and partner Skye of Corinth; one sister, Sharon Hart (Baby Duck), and her husband, Richard Hart, of Brewer; five very special nephews, Rick Hart and wife, Wendy, of Winterport, Steve Hart and wife, Lynn, of Brewer, Mike Hart and wife, Lorna, of Brewer, David Hart of Brewer and Robert Hart and wife, Carly, of Land O Lakes, Fla.; 14 grandnieces and nephews and 12 great-grandnieces and nephews. She loved each and every one of you specially! Many cousins and other beloved family by marriage as well. It was in Lake Okeechobee, Fla., where Jan began her career as a cashier with Walmart, transferring to the Ellsworth location in the summers. She absolutely loved her job, she did it with pride, and they absolutely loved her! She was employed through Walmart for 19 years, having just begun her 20th year. They not only knew her as Jan, it was in the Ellsworth Walmart she became known as 'The Rowdy Cashier,' both by the Walmart associates and the customer alike! She was always smiling, laughing, joking and talking to the customer, and has a bounce to her step no matter what the day would bring. Jan loved her job and did it with pride. In 19 years, she never missed a day of work, or was late to get there, and would be quick to cover a shift whenever she could. She would go on to train the new cashiers who began their careers at the Ellsworth Walmart. She loved to meet the new associates and help in any way she could. Jan also loved to go to the beach and bask in the sun when a day off would allow for that; and she was a member of a local bowling team. She really looked forward to those weekly competitions. Jan also very much loved to go live dancing and would be at Jordans Snack Bar in Ellsworth on Wednesday nights to meet up with her friends, listen to the music, and line dance to every song she could. Jan was adored and loved by many."

[29362] This line and information are from an unverified posting by Jeffrey Owens 30 Sept 1999 in rootsweb.com which offers: "He lived at Cape Rosier at Brookville, ME. He was a soldier at Fort Pownell in 1762. Signed a petition to Gov. Bernard in 1784. In 1784 he was living at Penobscot, Maine on 200 acres originally settled in 1765 by John Redman, while the 75 acres he had settled in 1765 was, in 1784, occupied by Israel Redman. He must have married the widow of John Redman, which would account for the shifting about of Redman-Colson properties and also John Colson calling Benjamin Redman his son-in-law in 1792. In 1800 census John says he emigrated from old York and he was born before 1755, but old enough to be a soldier in 1762." The unverified Kim Robie Family Tree in Ancestry.com in 2013 states John was b. ca. 1733 in Berwick, York Co., ME.
