Robert m. Sarah _____. Robert r. Salem, 1637, enrolled as a member of the church 15 May 1642, moved to New London in 1651 & obtained tract on east side of Thames River in town of Ledyard; styled self as "of New Norridge" in 1681; Constable, 1669; returned to New London & died on his farm there at Allyn's Point. He is probably the son of George Allyn who was a cod fisherman off Newfoundland. Robert was 29 when he settled in Salem in 1637. He moved to Connecticut with the Cape Ann Company and must have brought money with him as he was among those purchasing lots on Cape Ann Lane as well as a large grant up the river at Allyn's Point. In '56 he began trading from there in his own vessel. See "History of Mountville, Conn., " p. 514.

"Blackman and Allied Families," Alfred L. Holman (1928) reports the given name, Sarah, of Robert's wife, and states Robert was b. Eng. ca. 1616; was brother of William Allen, early settler of Manchester, MA, said to have been born in Manchester, England - William came to Gloucester, MA in the Dorcester Company in 1623-4 and went to Salem with Roger Conant in 1626.

Abner Oakes III shared via Internet in Aug 1998: "I have a lot of information going back to Richard Allyn born Braunton [now Brampton] in Devonshire, England. He married Margaret Wyatt on Sept 24, 1583 and their children were Emett 1584; Wilmot 1590; Thomas 1597; Richard 1601; Matthew 1605. His will dated 1647 mentions 10 grandchildren. He died in 1652. His three sons emigrated to America." [A Matthew Allyn, baptised 17 April 1605 in Braunton, Devonshire, emigrated to America and died 01 Feb 1671 at Windsor, Conn., apparently son of Richard Allyn and Margaret Wyatt. See Frank Thistlethwaite's "Dorset Pilgrims" (London: Barrie & Jenkins, 1989).]

"History of New London County, Conn. with Biographical Sketches of many of it's Pioneers and Prominent Men," compiled under the Supervision of D. Hamilton Hurd (Philadephia: J. W. Lewis & Co. 1882, Press of J.B. Lippincott & Co., Philadelphia), p. 761: "ROBERT ALLYN was of Salem in 1637, and enrolled as a member of the church May 15, 1642. He removed to New London in 1651, where he obtained a grant of a large farm on the east side of the river, at a place still known as ALLYN POINT, but now in the town of LEDYARD. He was one of the first company of purchasers of NORWICH, and resided for several years in the western part of the town plot. In 1661 he styles himself of "New Norridge," and held the office of constable in 1669, but in a deed of 1681 uses the formula, 'I, ROBERT ALLYN, of NEW LONDON.' Among the early settlers of the country we often meet with persons whom it is difficult to locate. They possess lands that lap over the bounds of adjoining settlements, and sometimes appear to belong to different townships at one and the same time. ROBERT ALLYN had doubtless reliquished his house in NORWICH to his son JOHN and retired to his farm on the river in 1655, within the bounds of NEW LONDON, where he died in 1683. His age is unknown, but he was freed from training in 1669, probably upon attaining the age of 60, the customary limit of military service; this would make him about seventy-five at death. The heirs of his estate were his son JOHN and four daughters, -- SARAH, wife of GEORGE GEER; Mary, wife of Thomas Parke; Hannah, wife of Thomas Rose; and Deborah, who afterwards married John Gager, Jr. The son received L 133, and each of the daughters L 66 6s. JOHN ALLYN, the son married, Dec. 24, 1668, 'Elizabeth daughter of John Gager, of New Norwich'....."

Jill I. SCRIBNER

[57322]

5 FEB 1945 - 6 FEB 2019

Family 1 : Dale M. AMES

INDEX

[57322] "The Bangor Daily News [Bangor, Maine]," 12 February 2019: "Trenton - Jill S. Ames, 74, died Wednesday evening, Feb. 6, 2019, surrounded by the love and caring of her daughters. She was born Feb. 5, 1945, in Albion, the daughter of Maurice and Beverly (Knox) Scribner. Jill was a graduate of Besse High School, Albion; a graduate of the PLUS School of Business, Portland; and a certified Project Manager through Digital Equipment Corporations project management program. But that was only her formal education: She was a lifelong learner, taking classes in many topics from universities and adult education programs in the many places that she lived, as well as taking and teaching crafting classes, especially in quilting. Jill spent most of her career working as an administrator, project manager, and program manager in the high-technology industry in New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Georgia, Illinois, and California. Her most recent position prior to retirement was as a Program Manager at Sun Microsystems in Menlo Park, CA. Since that time, she held a variety of part-time positions helping small businesses with bookkeeping and administrative tasks, as well as serving customers in a quilt shop. In her retirement, Jill spent most of her time enjoying her family (and they her) especially her daughters and her grandson and passionately pursued her greatest loves: gardening and quilting. In recent years, she belonged to two chapters of the Pine Tree Quilt Guild (Island Quilters and Liberated YoYos), spent countless hours making potholders and pro bono quilt blocks and oncology quilts, teaching quilt- and bag-making techniques to her fellow quilters, attending quilt shows, designing and making beautiful quilt tops for many relatives and friends, and sewing at retreats and with her daughters, who share her love of quilting. She was also a dedicated volunteer in the Master Gardener and Eat Well programs of the University of Maine Hancock County Cooperative Extension. A foe of food insecurity in Maine, she grew produce as part of the Friends in Action garden project of the Master Gardener program, and she taught clients of local food banks to use healthy produce in their meals as part of the Eat Well program. As busy as she was with those pursuits, she always found time to help her daughters with their gardens and to nurture her own gorgeous flowers and a few vegetables. Jill was a generous, energetic, caring, and fun person. She loved dogs, flowers, wildlife, and beautiful landscapes. She was quick with a smile and a kind word for everyone, and she generously shared her knowledge with anyone who wanted or needed it. She was proud of and loved her daughters and her grandson more than anything and was so happy that she was able to spend all but a few years of her life living with or very close by to one or all of them. Her happiest moments were with themhelping them (or getting their help) with quilts or gardens or homework, working on quilting and gardening projects together, and just running errands or having a family dinner for no reason other than the family enjoying each other. She was (and still is) loved by her friends and family and will be well and truly missed. Jill was predeceased by her mother, Beverly; her father, Maurice; her step-father, Maurice Swazey; and her brother, Charles Collins. She is survived by her daughter, Andrea L. Ames and her companion, Douglas Harber, of Lamoine; daughter, Wendy L. Ames and her husband, James Neilson, of Ellsworth, and grandson, Nicholas M. Vazquez of San Jose, CA; ex-husband, Dale M. Ames of Ellsworth; brother Maurice (Bud) Scribner and wife Marlene of Clinton; and numerous nieces and nephews. Jill's daughters and grandson will celebrate her life in the Ellsworth area at a date in the spring to be announced. All are welcome, and those who wish to join them may contact Andrea Ames at 216 High St #302, Ellsworth, ME 04605 for notification when the event is scheduled. Jill touched so many lives in large and small ways and will be most remembered for her love and dedication to her family and friends, for her affection for quilting, and for her selfless contribution to the Master Gardener and Eat Well programs of the University of Maine Cooperative Extension in Hancock County."
