"The Perry County Democrat [New Bloomfield, PA], 21 July 1937," p. 3: "Mr. Lester W. Shumaker, of Loysville, and Miss Ruth M. Hench, of Kistler, were united m marriage June 19, at 4 p. m. at the Reformed parsonage in Chambersburg, by Rev. Frank K. Bostian, a former pastor of the bride, who used the ring ceremony. The bride was charmingly attired in a blue net dress. Following the ceremony a wedding dinner was served at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Hench, to the following: Mr. and Mrs. Lester W. Shumaker, Mr. and Mrs. John Shumaker, Miss Fae Shumaker, Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Hench, son Ralph Hench, Mr. and Mrs. Reed McMillen, daughters Lorene, Miriam and Carilu, Stanley Hench, daughter Lucille and son Elwood. On June 21, the young couple left on a wedding tour through the southern states and Washington, D. C, visiting relatives, and returned to their homes several weeks later. Mrs. Shumaker is a graduate of the Ickesburg High School, class of 1936,, and Mr. Shumaker, who is a son of Mr. and Mrs. John Shumaker, is a graduate of the Landisburg High School, class of 1935, and both are estimable and popular young people who have a host of friends."
"The Sentinel [Carlisle, Pennsylvania], 9 June 1988," p. 10: "Lester W. Shumaker, 71, of 173 Wagner Drive, Carlisle, died Wednesday at home. Born in Loysville, he was the son of the late John and Lucy Adair Shumaker and the widower of Ruth Marie Hench Shumaker. He was a retired employee of Montgomery Ward and had been employed at Dickinson College, the Carlisle School District and had been a farmer. He was a member of the Loysville Lutheran Church and the Moose Lodge in Carlisle. Surviving are three sons, J. Richard Shumaker of Carlisle, Kenneth W. Shumaker of Mechanicsburg and Larry W. Shumaker of New Bloomfield; a sister, Faye Hench of Enola; and nine grandchildren. Services will be held at noon Friday in the Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home, 219 N. Hanover St., Carlisle, with the Rev. Paul Whitmoyer officiating. Burial will be in Restland Cemetery, Loysville."

Small, 70, of Etna, passed peacefully at Orono Commons on Feb. 24, 2021, after suffering health issues and the loss of his wife, May Dawn, in December. Lou was born at home in Milo on April 12, 1950. The family moved to Connecticut and then back to Maine in 1959, settling in Etna. Lou was a 1970 graduate of Hermon High School. He worked construction and driving truck until injured. He also was a member of Carmel and Etna Fire Departments for several years. He married May Dawn Tatro in 1978, and they lived in Etna until health required living assistance. Lou loved to take trips short or long. He would get his dog, grandkids and May Dawn into the truck, off they would go, only him knowing destinations. Louis is survived by 3 sisters, Mary Rogers of Etna, Linda McKusick of Newburgh and Karen Small of Corinth; 1 nephew and 4 nieces; stepchildren, George Tatro of Holden, Darla Crawford of Orland and Judy Moore of Holden; 8 grandkids, 19 great-grandkids and 2 great-great-grandkids. He was predeceased by his wife, May Dawn; his parents, Raymond Small and Thelma Small Butler; a sister, Rev. Ruth Guerette; a stepdaughter, Carol Barney; and grandson, Sam Crawford."
