He was a member of St. John the Baptist Ukranian Catholic Church, Maizeville; Rangers Hose Co., Girardville; and the United Mine Worker's Union. Opuda retired from the Raven Run Colliery. Surviving are his wife, the former Wanda Kuchinsky; a son, John, Girardville; daughters, Evelyn Joswick, Wilmington, Del.; Barbara Sanders, Staten Island, N.Y.; Antoinette Cantlin, Girardville; and Charlotte Hoffman, Cinnaminson, N.J.; a brother, Stephen, who lived with Opuda; sisters, Pauline Seman-chick, Girardville; Anna Piaskowski, Frackville; and Helen Toth, Baltimore; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10:15 a.m. from the Robert M. McDonald Funeral Home, Girardville, followed by Divine Liturgy at 11 a.m. in St. John the Baptist Ukranian Catholic Church. Interment will be in the parish cemetery."
