In 1278 he was distrained for knighthood as holding a knight's fee in Sussex. On 2 November 1281 he was pardoned for a sum taken by his father from the Sheriff of Yorkshire during the disturbances of 1265. He was summoned to Parliament from 23 September 1313 to 2 May 1322, by writs directed Johanni Marmyon or de Marmioun, whereby he is held to have become Lord Marmion. John married Isabel Peck, daughter of Alexander Peck and Unknown, after 1283 as 2nd husband."

Charlotte was a very active member of the Rebekah Lodge in Corinth, the Charleston schools and PTA and many local functions. She waa an excellent mother who loved to sew clothes for her family, pick and sell the strawberries or be working with her husband wherever she was needed. She is survived by three sons, George Simmons and his wife, Beverly and John Simmons and his wife, Collette, both of Charleston, and David Simmons of Bangor; a daughter, Laura Partridge and her husband, Doug of Charleston; two sisters, Marilyn Scribner of Dexter and Carole Smith and her husband, Lewis of Brewer; six grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. Charlotte was predeceased by a son, Harold."
