[1033] Nathaniel moved from Lynn in 1712 and settled in the NW part of Topsfield. He was a Quaker. He and Joanna had seven children: Nathan, Nathaniel, Richard, Joseph, Susanna(h), Amos and John. In 1746 Nathaniel built a house by the pond which is now called "Hood's Pond." The Hood family later founded what became New England's largest dairy company, bearing their name.

He was educated in Klingerstown area schools. He was a retired farmer and carpenter and previously worked for Nevin Wiest Contractor, Trevorton, retiring in 1971. He was a director of Northwestern Mutual Fire Insurance Co., Ashland RD1,for 48 years. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Erdman, Lykens RD1; Tri-Valley Senior Citizens, Valley View; Mahantongo Valley Senior Citizens, Pitman; and Klingerstown Fire Company. He is survived by a daughter, Larona Smink of Klingerstown RD1, with whom he lived; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Eva Paul of Klingerstown RD1 and Mabel Snyder of Elizabethville; and several nieces and nephews.
