Perkins Sr., 87, passed away peacefully with many prayers from family, friends and clergy on June 25, 2017, in Waterville. Fred was the first-born child of Henry G. Perkins and Ruth Varney Perkins, born in Springfield on Nov. 20, 1929. Attending school in Patten, Old Town and Ellsworth, he graduated in the Class of 1948 from Ellsworth High School, where he played basketball, baseball and football. Summers of Freds youth were spent in West Brooksville with his beloved grandparents, Fred J. Perkins and Laura Littlefield Tapley Perkins, on their farm. After graduation, Fred joined the U.S. Navy for a year of active duty and six years reserve. He attended the University of Maine in Orono in the forestry program then a year as a business major at Husson College. His attendance at Husson led to a choice that shaped the rest of his long fruitful life; he met and fell in love with Patricia A. Curran. That pairing inspired his true calling, to be a dairy farmer. Fred was predeceased by an infant son, Daniel, and first-born son Randall. He is survived by all three of his siblings: Thomas, Marilyn and Lois, his devoted wife, Patricia; children Laura and spouse Kevin, Donald and spouse Jean, Jeffrey and spouse Lisa, Michael and spouse Kelly, Theodore Mary and spouse Thomas, Jonathan and spouse Diane, Frederick Jr. and spouse Amy, Matthew and spouse Melissa, 20 adoring grandchildren and over 20 great-grandchildren."

He was married to Miss Catharine Ginrich, of Chester County. Their children were; Mary, was married to a Mr. W ilson; John, deceased; William, deceased; George Deceased; Catharine (Mrs. Henry Kepner); Sarah (Mrs. Sam uel Rice), deceased; Benjamin; Jesse; and Zachariah, of Illinois. She was born in Franklin on Nov. 24, 1933, the daughter of Richard C. and Winifred Willey. Karen fondly remembered her days at Ellsworth High School. She attended Fisher Secretarial School in Boston before her marriage to her husband Walter in 1952. They lived in West Gouldsboro while raising their children and moved to Ellsworth in 1982. Karen embarked on a career in real estate after her children were grown. Karen and Walter recently celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary. Karen was a lifetime member of the Order of the Eastern Star and served in the Grand Family. She also volunteered at Maine Coast Memorial Hospital while her health allowed. In addition to her husband, Walter, Karen is survived by her daughters, Pam LaHaye and her husband, Dick, of Morrill, and Kim Bunker-Hodgkins and her husband, Mike, of Trenton; three grandchildren, Matthew LaHaye and his wife, Machelle, Kathryn LaHaye Deetjen and her husband, Bobby, and Molly Hodgkins; great-grandchildren, Carmen LaHaye and Noah Deetjen; her sister, Joan West and husband, Jerry, of Virginia; sister-in-law, Jane Willey of Georgia; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; her granddaughter, Sophie Hodgkins; her sister and brother-in-law, Alice and William Rollins; her brother, Dick; and her niece, Karen Rhodes."
