[47609] "Bangor Daily News, 15 November 2008: "Cape Rosier - Clifford A. 'Kip' Leach, 75, died peacefully Nov. 14, 2008, after a short illness at a Bangor hospital. He was born June 11, 1933, in Castine, the son of Carl B. and Elizabeth H. (Clifford) Leach. Kip attended Brooksville High School, Husson College, the University of Maine, Orono and Northeast School of Broadcasting, Boston. He served 39 months in the U.S. Army, including a 15-month tour of duty in Korea. Kip worked in broadcasting for a short time before moving on to St. Regis Paper Co., Bucksport, starting out in the accounting department, then becoming manager of purchasing in the Timberlands Division. During the boating season, Kip also operated C. A. Leach Gas Dock, Buck's Harbor. Kip was known as the 'father' of his community. He was a selectman of Brooksville for 47 years, during which time he sat on many community boards. He had the remarkable ability to recall names, dates and interesting facts about Brooksville and its surrounding communities. Kip enjoyed meeting people and held a lifelong love of learning. Many people will miss their daily visits with Kip at the 'Breakfast Club' and 'Empty Pockets' or at Brooksville Town Office. He was president of Cape Rosier Union Church and Evergreen Cemetery Association; a member of Bagaduce Lodge of Brooksville; Eastern Star Lodge of Perfection, Bangor Chapter; Maine Consistory, S.P.R.S. 32, Portland; Anah Temple; Hancock County Shrine Club; Governor Brooks I.O.O.F. Lodge, Brooksville and a 50-year member of Cape Rosier Grange. Kip is survived by many cousins and many, many fri-ends. He was predeceased by his parents; lifelong friends, Perry 'Bugs' Smith and Belford Redman; and man's best friend, Charlie."
