[51906] "The Bangor Daily News [Bangor, Maine]," 3 September 1997, p. 15: "Ellsworth - On Sept. 2, 1997 at Maine Coast Memorial Hospital in Ellsworth Luray 'Ray' D. CIosson, 69, went to be with his Lord and savior. Ray was born March 10, 1928 in Ellsworth to Guy F. and Grace (Higgins) Closson. Ray is survived by his loving wife, Esther of 48 years; daughter Victoria and her significant other. Clarence Hardwick; son David and wife Dawn; grandchildren Christopher, Sara and Michelle Closson and LaRae Pinkham, all of Ellsworth; sisters Coris Sittnick of Connecticut and Marie Liberty of Ellsworth. He was predeceased by a brother, Merle. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Ray was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He owned and operated Ray's Automotive Repair Shop previous to World War II. Shortly after returning from the Korean War, he went to work for the Bar Harbor Motor Company of Ellsworth. At the same time he operated Closson Marine and Auto Service along with caretaking for the Wolfe Estate. At the time of his death, he was employed by the U.S. Postal Service based in the Ellsworth office as a general mechanic serving post offices north of Augusta with his good friend and partner, Bob Russell. He was a member of the Masons and the Hancock County Electrical Association. Ray was also an active member of the United Baptist Church in Ellsworth, serving on various boards and dedicated many years to the Sunday School bus ministry. He also spent many hours working at and caring for the Baptist Youth Camp in Charlotte. Ray's hobbies included gardening, woodcrafts and working on his woodlot. In the later years of his life, he completed his life long dream of designing and building a sawmill which he intended to use to cut lumber for his grandchildrens' homes. But Ray was one of the lucky ones, his job at the post office was his best hobby and one of the great joys in his life. His friends and family will miss Ray's caring spirit and his grandchildren will miss their daily hugs."
